Mumbai Airport

You will arrive in Mumbai airport If you are landing in Mumbai from an international flight. You will have to pass through immigration and customs before making your connecting flights.

Be sure to allow ample time for your connection in Mumbai.  It took us thirty minutes to pass through airport immigration, which would have taken even longer had we not had the correct tourist visa. Be sure you keep the small paper receipt that the customs officer places in your passport as you will have to hand it in after you pass through airport customs at Mumbai.

After immigration, you collect your bag from the baggage carousel. This can be a lengthy process.

When we collected our bags at the airport at Mumbai, it appeared that thirty to forty bags were being brought to the baggage claim area at a time, with about a twenty minute gap between the delivery of one lot of bags and the next.

It took us nearly two hours to get our bags. Fortunately, the baggage claim area at Mumbai is air conditioned.

After collecting your bag, you will have to have your bag scannned two times, before passing through the customs area.

If you are travelling onward in India, you will need to take the free coach service to get to the other airport terminal for your domestic flight after you leave the international terminal.

There are two domestic terminals, so you have to listen to the driver for his announcement about where to disembark. Different airlines are served in the two domestic airport terminals in Mumbai, so listen carefully since the announcement is given verbally at the front of the coach without a loudspeaker.

The Mumbai domestic airport is clean and bright. There is nice food court with lots of franchised restaurants like Dominos and Kentucky Fried Chicken. There is also a free WiFi conenction area in the Mumbai airport sponsored by Airtel.
